UNITED IN SERVICE

2019-2020 SIGNATURE PROJECTS

Grow Service – Change Lives! As service is our mission and the heart of Quota, our goal is to unite all clubs worldwide through participation in one or both of these service projects. Each project can have a life changing impact for the beneficiaries of these initiatives. We invite 100% of clubs to add one or both projects to your service offerings this year. We will celebrate your success at Convention 2020!

SPEECH AND HEARING – SOUND FIELD AMPLIFICATION SYSTEMS:

“Listening to Learn"

The "Listening to Learn” project provides classroom amplification systems to classrooms. Children learn primarily through hearing. Children’s auditory brain centers are not fully developed until a child is about 15 years old. 10-15% of elementary school children are experiencing a temporary hearing loss from a middle ear infection on any given day of the week. It is crucial for students to hear what the instructor is saying for effective hearing to take place. Research has found that a student’s ability to learn and academic performance are negatively affected when the instructor’s ability to verbally communicate is blocked or muddled by background noises.

A sound field system consists of a wireless microphone that amplifies the instructor’s voice and evenly distributes that voice throughout the classroom. It provides consistent, audible sound throughout the entire classroom, ensuring all children have access to auditory instruction, even when listening in noise. Multiple studies have documented improved academic performance for children of all ages and abilities who are educated in amplified classrooms. Amplification benefits all children but especially those with hearing loss, attention difficulties, ear infections, and auditory processing difficulties.
