December President's Message

Dear Quota Members,

How do you say Happy Holidays? In my home country of the Philippines we say, Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon. Perhaps Felices Fiestas, Joyeuses Fetes, Prettige Feestdagen, Buone Feste, Selamat Hari Raya, or Happy Holidays, Mates, is more familiar to you!

The holiday season is upon us, a magical time of year. No matter where we call home in Quota’s world or what language we speak, Quotarians are connected together this special time of year through our shared joy in serving those in need. We are a wonderful worldwide family.

Did you know that the seeds of Quota International were planted 101 years ago this month at a holiday party? Our Founder, Wanda Frey Joiner, became inspired to launch our beloved organization when attending a special Kiwanis Christmas event “for ladies” in December 1918, and two months later Quota Club International, Incorporated, was a reality.

In December 2019, 101 years later, Quota’s Board of Directors met together in person, to discuss and determine its proposal for our organization’s future structure. We will be announcing our proposed plans for ensuring the future of our clubs in early January 2020, just a few short weeks away.

Meanwhile, I have good news to report. We were successful in selling the second of our four office units earlier this month. On December 2, we sold Unit 5, the largest of our units, for US$510,000, US$15,000 below our asking price of US$525,000. Because most of our workspaces were located in that unit, we have leased a rental office space located in our current building on the same floor as the two units that have not yet sold. The leased unit is 600-square feet (down from our approximately 3,000 square feet of owned space) and it will be our new home moving forward.

The two QI Office units that remain unsold include Unit 6, which houses our tenant plus the Quota kitchen and storage room, and Unit 7, which houses our work room, copier, and one work space. We have had interest in the remaining units, but no contracts as of yet. Once these two units sell, we will consolidate all of our operations into the 600-square foot leased unit, renting outside storage, if necessary. Our annual occupancy expenses will be greatly reduced at that time.

In closing, please allow me to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a Joyous Holiday Season. Quota’s members are our organization’s greatest blessing, and we thank you for all that you do in Quota’s name in service to your community and our world.

Sincerely,

Emilie Simon

2018-2020 President
