The roadside Santa’s, stores and signs all welcome the entire family to Christmas, a one-of-a-kind stop for your Michigan visit anytime of the year.

Christmas, MI, with population of about 400, sits on the shores of Lake Superior and was given its name by a man from the town of Munising just to the east, who started a roadside factory to make holiday gift items in 1938. The town maintains its fame today!

A scenic two-hour drive from the Mackinac Bridge, this little town is just one example of the quaint and sometimes quirky finds you will discover throughout Michigan. Each town shows off its own attractions and unique treasures, and serves as a jumping off point for more adventure. Christmas MI can lead to Hiawatha National Forest, Grand Island National Recreation Area, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, the End of the Road Lighthouse, Lake Superior beaches, numerous waterfalls, fishing, hunting, rustic camping, hiking, biking, snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, snowmobiling and Kewadin Casino (on Candy Cane Lane). Enjoy the local breweries and wineries and relax at local spots like the Duck Pond Eatery and Beer Garden, the White Pine Lodge, or the Yule Log Resort.

When you come to Michigan, be sure to explore the rocks and crannies of the Upper Peninsula. Even if you don’t celebrate Santa, the town of Christmas showcases the unique, warm and welcoming nature of Michigan. With over 3,288 miles of fresh water shoreline (more than any state in the US), and over 120 lighthouses, Michigan shares all kinds of wonderful adventures on and off the beaten path. Head north from Grand Rapids, cross the Mackinac Bridge and immerse yourself into a very special part of Michigan. See for yourself in this Pure Michigan video: Click here!
